Waves of the National Museum of the American Indian

The building’s architect, Douglas Cardinal, envisioned the shape of this building as a natural rock form, as if carved gradually by wind and water. Because of the curves and warm color of the rock, the museum staff see this building as a female building–the first female building on the National Mall.
